How to Make Phoebe's Donuts
- Sift flour and baking powder together in bowl.
- Mix together the remaing ingredients in another bowl. To this mixture add the flour mixture. It should be a stiff batter and you should be able to make a roll with it. If not, add additional flour.
- Once you have shaped your roll, cut it into 24 slices and deep fry them in fat. Back in the day when my grandfather made these, I am sure they probably used lard. I think shortening or vegetable oil will work fine.
- Place them on a towel to dry. While still hot, sprinkle with sugar if desired.
