This recipe is from my Searchlight Recipe Book copyright in 1931. This is a really nice brown bread. It is good with just butter, or with orange jam or jelly.

Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup white flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- - grated rind from 1 orange
- 1/2 pound chopped pitted dates
How To Make orange-date brown bread

Step 1Sift white flour, measure and sift with baking soda and salt. Add whole wheat flour. Combine sugar, molasses, and buttermilk. Add dry ingredients mix thoroughly. Add rind dates, and nuts. Mix thoroughly. Pour into well oiled bread pan.

Step 2Bake in moderate oven 375 degrees for 1 hour.
