Mom served this with her Orange Cheese Spread (recipe in JAP).

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 1/3 cups orange juice
  • 3/4 cup orange peel
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 - eggs, beaten
  • 4 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons salt

How To Make orange bread, mom

  • Step 1
    Combine sugar and water in a saucepan. Add peel and stir constantly over med heat until dissolved. Reduce heat, cook 5 min. Add butter, when melted, cool and add juice and egg. Add dry ingredients. Turn into greased 8x4 pan. Bake 45-50 min at 325 degrees. Let stand 10 min and turn out to rack to cool. Store overnight before slicing.
  • Step 2
    To sliver orange peel, remove thin orange colored peel only with a vegetable peeler and cut into strips.
