Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    cornmeal
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2
    eggs, well beaten
  • 2 Tbsp
    melted butter
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder

How to Make Old Virginia Spoonbread

Step-by-Step

  1. In a casserole dish, melt butter.
  2. Scald meal with boiling water.
  3. Add beaten eggs and buttermilk combined with baking soda, salt, & baking powder. Beat 1 min.
  4. Pour in melted butter.
  5. Pour mixture into hot casserole dish & bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes, until brown. Serve immediately.
