This is such a good bread! The house smells sooo good!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/3 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 pinch sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark molasses
  • 2 tablespoons soft butter
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 cups enriched white flour

How To Make oatmeal dark bread

  • Step 1
    Mix together in a large bowl the 1 cup rolled oats and 2 cups boiling water, cool 1/2 hour.
  • Step 2
    Mix the yeast, lukewarm water and sugar and set aside.
  • Step 3
    Add to cooled oatmeal mixture: Molasses, soft butter, salt and yeast mixture. Then gradually add about 6 cups of flour. Dough should come away from the bowl or stick to the dough hook if you use a stand mixer. Place dough in a greased bowl, turn once to grease both sides of dough. Let rise until double, punch down dough. Shape into loaf and place in a 9x5x3 pan and let rise until double. Bake at 350 degrees for about one hour. Makes 2 loaves.
