Ingredients
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 2 cups boiling water
- 1/3 cup lukewarm water
- 2 packages active dry yeast
- 1 pinch sugar
- 1/2 cup dark molasses
- 2 tablespoons soft butter
- 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 6 cups enriched white flour
How To Make oatmeal dark bread

Step 1Mix together in a large bowl the 1 cup rolled oats and 2 cups boiling water, cool 1/2 hour.

Step 2Mix the yeast, lukewarm water and sugar and set aside.

Step 3Add to cooled oatmeal mixture: Molasses, soft butter, salt and yeast mixture. Then gradually add about 6 cups of flour. Dough should come away from the bowl or stick to the dough hook if you use a stand mixer. Place dough in a greased bowl, turn once to grease both sides of dough. Let rise until double, punch down dough. Shape into loaf and place in a 9x5x3 pan and let rise until double. Bake at 350 degrees for about one hour. Makes 2 loaves.
