I am not sure where Mom got this recipe, but we could never get her to make it enough. Also, not sure why she lined the baking pans with waxed paper, but why change it now?

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2/3 cup shortening
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 1/8 cups sour milk or buttermilk
- 2 - egss, beaten
How To Make mom's coffee cake

Step 1Mix flour, salt, brown sugar and shortening with pastry cutter or 2 knives until crumbly. Reserve 1/2 cup for topping.

Step 2Add baking powder, soda and spices to remaining mixture. Add milk and eggs; mix well. Pour into 2 waxed paper lined 8x8 baking pans; Sprinkle with reserved crumbs;

Step 3Chopped pecans and extra cinnamon can be sprinkled if you want extra flavor boost. Bake at 375 for 25 to 30 minutes.
