This recipe belongs to my late mother-in-law Amanda Gainey aka "Momma Gainey"

She died when I was 1 day from being 11 months old. Actually she died on Labor Day which was Sept 3, 1979.

Ingredients

1 1/2 c
all purpose flour
1/3 c
sugar
2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
ground nutmeg
1
egg
1/2 c
milk
2 Tbsp
butter, melted
oil for deep fat frying
confectioners' sugar

How to Make Momma Gainey's Sugar Donut Holes

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a large mixing bowl - combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg
  • 2In a small mixing bowl - combine egg, milk and butter
  • 3Add wet mixture to dry ingredients; mix well
  • 4In a electric skillet or deep fat fryer - heat oil to 375 degrees F
  • 5Drop dough by heaping teaspoons full, 5 or 6 at a time, into oil
  • 6Fry until browned, about 1 to 2 minutes, turning once
  • 7Drain on paper towels
  • 8Roll in confectioners' sugar
