This recipe belongs to my late mother-in-law Amanda Gainey aka "Momma Gainey" She died when I was 1 day from being 11 months old. Actually she died on Labor Day which was Sept 3, 1979.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 - egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • - oil for deep fat frying
  • - confectioners' sugar

How To Make momma gainey's sugar donut holes

  • Step 1
    In a large mixing bowl - combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg
  • Step 2
    In a small mixing bowl - combine egg, milk and butter
  • Step 3
    Add wet mixture to dry ingredients; mix well
  • Step 4
    In a electric skillet or deep fat fryer - heat oil to 375 degrees F
  • Step 5
    Drop dough by heaping teaspoons full, 5 or 6 at a time, into oil
  • Step 6
    Fry until browned, about 1 to 2 minutes, turning once
  • Step 7
    Drain on paper towels
  • Step 8
    Roll in confectioners' sugar
