This recipe belongs to my late mother-in-law Amanda Gainey aka "Momma Gainey"

She died when I was 1 day from being 11 months old. Actually she died on Labor Day which was Sept 3, 1979.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/3 c
    sugar
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    ground nutmeg
  • 1
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • ·
    oil for deep fat frying
  • ·
    confectioners' sugar

How to Make Momma Gainey's Sugar Donut Holes

Step-by-Step

  1. In a large mixing bowl - combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg
  2. In a small mixing bowl - combine egg, milk and butter
  3. Add wet mixture to dry ingredients; mix well
  4. In a electric skillet or deep fat fryer - heat oil to 375 degrees F
  5. Drop dough by heaping teaspoons full, 5 or 6 at a time, into oil
  6. Fry until browned, about 1 to 2 minutes, turning once
  7. Drain on paper towels
  8. Roll in confectioners' sugar
