Ingredients
- 2 cups unsifted flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup raisins
- 1 tablespoon caraway seeds
- 3 tablespoons butter, softened
- 1 cup buttermilk
How To Make irish soda bread

Step 1Preheat oven to 375F Lightly grease a cookie sheet or use parchment paper

Step 2Sift first five ingredients into a large bowl Add raisins and caraway seeds Cut in softened butter Add buttermilk Mix with a fork until moistened

Step 3Move dough to a lightly floured surface Knead until smooth; tacky but not sticky (a little may need to be added) Shape into a ball

Step 4Put on the cookie sheet Flatten to a seven inch mound Make a crosscut in the dough being careful not to cut even halfway through Bake 30-40 minutes until tapping the surface makes a hollow sound

Step 5Serve immediately or wrap in a linen towel to keep Serves well plain or with butter
