This is a family favorite. Great tasting with a little butter or just plain.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups unbleached white flour
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter, chilled
  • 1 cup raisins, optional
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk or plain yogurt

How To Make irish soda bread

  • Step 1
    Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step 2
    In a bowl, combine ingredients. Cut butter into flour until it is pea size. Stir in raisins (optional) and buttermile or yogurt.
  • Step 3
    Turn the dough onto a floured surface, knead 1 minute, shape into a disk.
  • Step 4
    Cut an "X" in the top and bake on a greased baking sheet for 45-60 minutes.
