I have been making this bread for over 35 years for St. Patrick's Day. It is a cross between a cake and bread, moist and delicious. I leave it out most of the day and wrap it in plastic and put in refigerator, or freeze some...Enjoy with butter..

Ingredients

  • 4 c
    unbleached flour
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2
    eggs
  • 2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 c
    dark rasins

How to Make Irish soda bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Sift dry ingredients together 3 times.(trust me it's worth it)
  2. Add the eggs beaten, 2 cups of buttermilk. Mix well Add the raisins.
  3. use a 10 inch cake pan or skillet. I use pam spray. Pour batter into pan , It will be thick. Make a large cross on top of loaf. set oven to 350.
