My son has been studying Greek mythology and found this recipe for the type of bread that Greek soldiers ate to keep their strength up for battles. It's very nice for breakfast and a great snack.

Ingredients For hoplite soldier sesame bread

  • 4 c
    flour
  • 2 c
    whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 c
    warm milk
  • 3/4 c
    olive oil
  • 3
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 3/4 c
    sesame seeds
  • 1 c
    honey
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    yeast

How To Make hoplite soldier sesame bread

    Dissolve the yeast in the milk and set aside
  • 2
    Mix the flours with the salt, then add the eggs, olive oil, milk, and half of the honey.

    Knead until soft and elastic, slowly adding half the sesame seeds

    Cover and place in a warm place for an hour to rise. After the hour, form the dough into a log and slice into buns. Place the buns on a pan and allow to re-rise for 30 minutes.

    Press your thumb into the middle of each bun and paint the buns with the remaining honey. Sprinkle with the remaining sesame seeds and bake for 40 min at 350 degrees.
