    1/2 cup butter,softened
  • ·
    1/2 cup sugar
  • ·
    1 large egg,beaten
  • ·
    21/2 cup self-rising flour
  • ·
    1 tsp.cinn.
  • ·
    1 tsp.ginger
  • ·
    1/2 tsp.clove
  • ·
    1/2 tsp.salt >only if using plain flour
  • ·
    11/2 tsp.baking soda >only if using plain flour
  • ·
    1 cup molasses
  • ·
    1 cup hot water

How to Make Grannie Smathers Gingerbread


  1. Cream shortening,sugar.Add beaten egg. Measure and sift dry ingredients mix molasses with hot water. Add dry ingredients alternately with liquid beat after each addition.Bake in a loaf pan that has been greased and floured. Bake at 350* for 45 mins. until done.
