grandma's date nut bread
I ate this every Christmas as a kid growing up, it was my Grandmothers recipe. I still love this bread, and now I make it every year in memory of her, and my mother.

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter, cold
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 3/4 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups hot or boiling water
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1 package dates (unseeded - no pits) fresh or boxed
- 3 to 4 medium figs (optional)
- 1 cup seedless raisins
How To Make grandma's date nut bread

Step 1Pour Water over Dates, Sugar and Butter - allow to soak so the dates get moist and soften.

Step 2Add Vanilla, then Flour.

Step 3Finally, add walnuts and remaining ingredients to bowl. Mix till thick (like cake batter). Grease pans, pour batter into pans and place in oven for 1 hour (60 Mins) or until knife slides out of center of bread clean.
