My youngest grandson, Johnny, came home from school with this recipe from his 2nd grade class teacher. He was told to make it with someone for Thanksgiving...he chose me, his Grammy. This was several years ago. Needless to say...it has become a tradition, one that I hope will go on for a very long time.
1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan.
2Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and baking soda into a large bowl. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Add egg, orange peel, and orange juice all at once; stir just until mixture is evenly moist. Fold in raisins and cranberries.
3Spoon into loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Remove from pan; cool on a wire rack.
