A slice of this old-fashioned date pecan bread is wonderful with a few pats of butter. It's tender with bits of chopped dates and pecans in every bite. Not overly sweet, it would be delicious with a cup of coffee or tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried dates, finely chopped
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

How To Make date pecan bread

  • Soak the dates for 2 hours.
    Step 1
    Soak dates for 2 hours in water.
  • Dry and chop the dates.
    Step 2
    Drain and dry. Then dice the dates. Preheat oven to 320 degrees F.
  • Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
    Step 3
    Sift flour with baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • Mix egg, sugar, and butter.
    Step 4
    In a bowl, mix egg, sugar, and butter.
  • Alternatively add dry ingredients with orange juice and water.

  • Stir in the dates and pecans.

  • Pour mixture into a greased loaf pan.

  • Bake the date bread.

    Bake in a 325 degree oven for about 1 hour and 20 minutes or until the bread tests done in the center.
  • Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove to completely cool.

    Cool for about 10 minutes in the pan. Then remove the loaf and cool it on a cooling rack.
