Ingredients
- 1/2 cup cut up dates
- 1 - 4 ounce german chocolate bar
- 3 cups boiled water
- 3 teaspoons baking soda
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 3 - eggs
- 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups maraschino cherries, cut in half
How To Make chocolate nut bread

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2Dissolve soda in hot water and pour over dates and chocolate. Let stand to cool.

Step 3Cream sugar, butter, and eggs. Add cooled date and water mixture alternately with flour.

Step 4Add nuts, vanilla and cherries. Batter is thin.

Step 5Grease and flour bread pans, fill 1/2 full.

Step 6Bake 50-60 minutes or until tests done with a pick.
