cut up dates
4 ounce german chocolate bar
3 c
boiled water
3 tsp
baking soda
2 1/2 c
1/2 c
butter or margarine
4 1/2 c
all purpose flour
1 pinch
1 c
chopped walnuts or pecans
3 tsp
vanilla extract
1 1/2 c
maraschino cherries, cut in half

How to Make Chocolate Nut Bread


  • 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2Dissolve soda in hot water and pour over dates and chocolate. Let stand to cool.
  • 3Cream sugar, butter, and eggs. Add cooled date and water mixture alternately with flour.
  • 4Add nuts, vanilla and cherries. Batter is thin.
  • 5Grease and flour bread pans, fill 1/2 full.
  • 6Bake 50-60 minutes or until tests done with a pick.
