This is so easy and tastes great right out of the oven.Chocolate adds a bit of sweatness too. This makes one loaf and is great for any meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 1/3 cups buttermilk or milk
  • 1 - egg
  • 1 - egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon water

How To Make chocolate irish soda bread

  • Step 1
    Combine in bowl flour,sugar,baking powder, baking soda and salt. Using 2 knives,cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Step 2
    Stir in raisins and chocolate chips.
  • Step 3
    In a bowl combine milk and egg and beat well. Add to flour mixture and stir till dry ingredients are moistened.
  • Step 4
    On floured surface knead dough about 3 minutes and then shape into flattened ball.
  • Step 5
    Place on greased cookie sheet or baking pan to fit.Put an X on top of dough with a sharp knife about 1/2 inch deep.
  • Step 6
    Combine egg yolk and water and brush on top of bread.
  • Step 7
    Bake at 375 degrees for 50-60 minutes till golden.
