chocolate chip scones with nutella glaze

Scones are the best. Here is one of many versions I like.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 5 tablespoons butter, unsalted cold cut into chunks
  • 1 cup heavy cream, cold plus more for brushing the scones
  • 1-1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • FOR GLAZE
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tablespoons nutella or hazellnut spread
  • 1/4+ cup milk or cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon butter

How To Make chocolate chip scones with nutella glaze

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven 400 f Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Using a pastry blender, cut in cold butter with four. The mixture should look like coarse crumbs.
  • Step 2
    Make a well in the flour and pour in heavy cream. Fold everything together just to incorporate. Do not over work the dough.
  • Step 3
    Fold in chocolate chips. Turn out onto a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Shape into a 8 inch circle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Step 4
    Cut dough into 8 wedges. Separate wedges about two inches apart. Brush scones with cream. Bake in oven for 15-18 minutes or until light golden. Do not over bake. Let scones cool for at least 20 minutes before applying glaze.
  • Step 5
    FOR GLAZE Sift confectioners sugar in a microwave bowl. Sir in cream and mix well. Add Nutella and stir until all is combined, adding more cream if too thick. Stir in vanilla and add the butter.
  • Step 6
    Microwave on high for 30 seconds. Whisk to smooth out lumps. Heat additional 10 seconds if butter not melted. Drizzle glaze over scones. Let set for 5 mins.
