canadian lemon bread

My mother used to make this delicious bread every year at Christmas time. She was a fabulous cook. I truly don't remember anything she made turning out badly. Needless to say, I had a great teacher! :)

Ingredients
- 6 tablespoons shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- - zest of one lemon
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 2 - eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk, whole
- 1/2 cup walnut pieces (optional)
- GLAZE
- 1/2 cup sugar
- - juice of 1 lemon
How To Make canadian lemon bread

Step 1Cream shortening and sugar together until creamy.

Step 2Add eggs and milk, mix well.

Step 3Add salt,baking powder, and flour, mix well.

Step 4Fold in lemon zest.

Step 5Pour into greased, 1-quart, bread pan and let rise for 20 minutes.

Step 6Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes, or until done.

Step 7When still warm, remove from pan and brush the top and sides with the glaze.

Step 8The glaze should be made and left to stand while the bread is baking.
