I just posted a version from my grandfather on my Mom's side. This is a recipe from my great grandmother on my father's side. Hmmm - with this kind of background, I don't have to think about why I like donuts.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 - egg
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger
How To Make boyd's donuts

Step 1In a medium bowl mix together the sugar, milk, egg, vanilla and shortening.

Step 2In a large bowl sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and ginger.

Step 3To the flour mixture add the wet ingredients and mix. Let stand for a few minutes.

Step 4Roll out to 1/3" thick, cut and deep fry in hot fat. Drain on paper bag.
