2cream together shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. add eggs and beat well. sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
3dredge cherries and nuts in 1/4 cup flour mixture.
4add balance of flour and milk alternately to creamed mixture.
5stir in cherries and nuts. turn into a greased 5.5x9x5 inch loaf pan.
6bake in oven for 1 hour.
