better than grandma's banana bread

a variation on an old recipe from my Grandma's Betty Crocker cookbook.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup butter or margerine(1 stick)
  • 3 large mashed ripe bananas
  • 2 large beaten eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 1/3 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/2 cup applesauce, unsweetened

How To Make better than grandma's banana bread

  • Step 1
    cream sugar, butter, vanilla extract and salt
  • Step 2
    add eggs, bananas and applesauce. beat just till mixed.
  • Step 3
    add flour, baking soda and spices. mix lightly. add nuts and mix just till blended.
  • Step 4
    pour into greased loaf pan. bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 60 to 70 minutes till golden brown and knife inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Step 5
    remove from pan immediately and cool. drizzle with powdered sugar icing if desired.
