best buttermilk banana bread
This is the best banana bread I've ever eaten and it's the buttermilk that is the secret. When my kids see that our bananas are past their prime, they ask me to make a loaf of this fantastic bread!

Ingredients
- 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 3/4 cups sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 cups bananas, mashed
- 4 - eggs
- 3/4 cup butter, melted
- 2/3 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup pecans, toasted and chopped (optional)

Step 1Preheat oven to 325°F. Prepare two 9x5-inch loaf pans.

Step 2Combine dry ingredients (first 8 ingredients) in a large bowl.

Step 3Combine wet ingredients (next 5 ingredients) in a medium bowl.

Step 4Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and combine just until flour is moistened. Add nuts if using and combine (do not overmix).
