My Mother made this banana nut bread all the time I was growing up. It was always wonderful at holiday time.

Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons soft shortening
- 1 - egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 cup mashed bananas
- 3 cups flour, sifted
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup nuts, chopped
How To Make banana nut bread

Step 1Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease loaf pan (9x5x3 inch) or 3 20 oz cans. Mix sugar, shortening and egg thoroughly. Stir in milk. Sift dry ingredients together and stir into shortening mixture. Blend in nuts and bananas. Pour into prepared pan(s). Bake 60 to 70 minutes or till pick stuck in center comes out clean.

Step 2This bread is really tender. It is good in the morning, carefully buttered and toasted in a skillet, served with a fresh fruit cup and fresh, hot coffee. Nice afternoon "tea" bread to serve with tea.
