The original recipe came from our neighbor. The recipe was used to bake banana bread at the Callaway Gardens Store in Georgia. I have added an extra ingredient to the recipe to enhance the flavor. Hope you enjoy this bread!

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 4 - eggs, beaten
- 4 cups plain flour (i use white lily)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
- 6 - bananas, large, ripe
- - optional: chopped dates (8), golden raisins, or canned pineapple
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
How To Make banana bread

Step 1Cream sugar and shortening with a hand mixer in a large mixing bowl. Add eggs. Sift dry ingredients and add to the first mixture. Add mashed bananas and nuts. Bake in 4 small loaf pans or 2 large loaf pans at 275 degrees for 30 minutes, then increase heat to 300 degrees and bake 45 minutes.
