This was my Mom's recipe and I make it whenever I have a couple of over ripe bananas.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 2 large
    eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    flour, sifted
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 c
    mashed bananas
  • 1/2 c
    sour milk*
  • 1/2 c
    walnuts, coarsely chopped

How to Make Banana Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Cream shortening, then add sugar. Beat until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time and beat well after each addition. In another bowl, mix dry ingredients. In a third bowl, mix bananas and sour milk. Add dry ingredients alternately with banana mixture to shortening/sugar mix. Stir in nuts and pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 1 hour.
  2. *Add a small amount of vinegar to fresh milk to curdle.
