This sure doesn't last long around here and it's easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups milk ( i have used 2%, evap.milk & 1/2 & 1/2)
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 - egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon shortening, melted

How To Make baked brown bread

  • Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Mix together the cornmeal, flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Step 2
    Add the milk and molasses to the beaten egg. Blend the milk mixture into the dry ingredients. Add the shortening. Pour into a greased loaf pan and bake for 1 hour or until firm.
