applesauce raisin loaf

Early in my marriage money was tight and I love to give gifts. I started baking breads and cookies as a way to give something thoughtful that didn't cost an arm and a leg. This bread was one of my friends favorites and it's so easy.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups applesauce, unsweetened
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 - beaten egg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup raisins

How To Make applesauce raisin loaf

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Step 2
    grease loaf pan
  • Step 3
    combine applesauce and baking soda in small bowl--set side.(this mixture sizzles and foams)
  • Step 4
    cream butter and sugar in large bowl
  • Step 5
    stir in egg, cinnamon, salt and cloves
  • Step 6
    blend in applesauce mix (this will appear to be curdled).
  • Step 7
    mix in flour slowly until mix is smooth.
  • Step 8
    fold in raisins and pour into greased pan
  • Step 9
    bake 65-70 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 munutes then invert onto cooling rack.
