southern style cornbread
This is one of those comfort foods a true southerner can't do without! So easy to make... This works best if you can bake it in an iron skillet... a 10" or 12" skllet will work.

Ingredients
- 1 1/3 cups corn meal (stone ground works best)
- 2/3 cup all purpose flour
- 2 cups buttermilk (or use milk w/2 tbsbs vinegar to clabber it)
- 2 large eggs (ex-lg or jumbo eggs are better)
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 2 to 3 tablespoons shortening
How To Make southern style cornbread

Step 1Using your hands, rub the shortening all over the inside of the iron skillet or pan you will use. Grease it well. Mix ingredients until just blended and pour into the prepared skillet or pan. Bake at 450 degrees until brown & crusty on top, about 30 minutes.

Step 2Let set on top of the stove to cool about 20 minutes before serving. Serve with sweet creamery butter..... YUM!
