These are based on the Beautiful Burger Buns recipe from King Arthur Flour. I swapped out part of the flour for whole wheat and added some flavor. They make good sandwich or burger rolls, or dinner rolls.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup 3/4 to 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • TOPS
  • 1 - egg white
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onions
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon grill or steak seasoning of your choice

How To Make sesame onion rolls

  • Step 1
Combine and knead dough ingredients together until smooth - I just pop it in the Kitchenaid mixer.
  • Step 2
Cover and let rise 1-2 hours until doubled.
  • Step 3
Deflate and divide dough into 8 equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball, then flatten slightly.
  • Step 4
Arrange dough on a lightly greased or parchment lined baking sheet, cover and let rise an hour.
  • Step 5
In a small bowl, combine egg white and water to form eggwash. Brush over tops of buns gently.
  • Step 6
Sprinkle over any combination of seasoning toppings you like - I don't measure, I just shake until it has however much I want, but I tried to estimate how much. I like a lot on there!
  • Step 7
    Bake in a preheated 375 oven 15 - 18 minutes until golden.
