I am not sure were this recipe originated from I have been cooking it 20 some odd years. This is something my whole family loves you would think I was feeding them a five star meal when I call and say I am baking sausage bread, as soon as they get home from work they are here to eat and take some home. It is really very easy, but really good. My son told me yesterday there is nothing else like this bread. I usually cook 3 loaves at a time and it may last for 2 days

Ingredients

  • 1 - frozen bread dough, i use rhodes, thawed
  • 1/4 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/4 cup onions, chopped
  • - garlic salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon italian seasoning
  • 1 - egg
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound ground sausage

How To Make sausage bread

  • Step 1
Brown sausage, peppers and onions together. Add garlic salt and Italian seasoning. Remove from heat. In small bowl combine egg and parmesan cheese, add to meat mixture stirring quickly so egg will not scramble. Roll out bread dough, I just use my hands to do this. If you will let dough sit to room temperature it flattens out easier. Spread meat mixture over dough and roll up like a jelly roll. Place on baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees about 25 minutes. If the bottom begins to get to brown about half way through the cooking I flip it over. Let cool on wire rack.
