oatmeal bread

This is a great Amish bread recipe. Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do :)

yield 2 or 3 loafs

Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 3 tablespoons shortening (we use peanut oil)
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packages or 2 t. yeast
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 cup oatmeal

How To Make oatmeal bread

  • Step 1
    Bring first 4 ingredients to a boil. Add oatmeal. Cool until lukewarm, then add yeast that has been dissolved in 1/3 cup water. Add flour and knead will. Let rise until doubled. Form into loaves or dinner rolls. Sprikle oats on top. Let rise again and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until browned nicely. Brush with butter.
