megan's corn bread

This was a recipe I probably wrote from one of the ones Grandma W had, or got from one of the Great Aunts. It was in my handwriting, and got so old that I had to put it into the computer to save it (I used to write my recipes in pencil).

Ingredients For megan's corn bread

  • 1 c
    cornmeal
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1/4 c
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    milk
  • 1
    egg, beaten
  • 1/4 c
    oil
  • sugar to sprinkle on top, optional

How To Make megan's corn bread

  • 1
    Oven to 425 degrees. Grease 8" square pan. Combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, powder and salt. Add egg, milk and oil just until dry ingredients are moistened. Bake 20-25 min or until golden.

    Note: My grandma (Grandma W) used to sprinkle a little sugar on top of her cornbread or on muffins before she baked them.
