- 2 cups self-rising cornmeal(white)
- 3 tablespoons self-rising flour
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- - add enough water to make the batter soupy...once batter is mixed let sit and do not stir.

Step 1Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of shortening to cast iron skillet and place in oven until very hot.

Step 2Without stirring cornbread batter, pour into hot skillet and bake until golden brown.
