My mother made this cornbread all the time. people asked her for the recipe often.

    self-rising cornmeal(white)
  • 3 Tbsp
    self-rising flour
  • 1 1/2 c
  • ·
    add enough water to make the batter soupy...once batter is mixed let sit and do not stir.

How to Make Louise's Cornbread


  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of shortening to cast iron skillet and place in oven until very hot.
  2. Without stirring cornbread batter, pour into hot skillet and bake until golden brown.
