My grandmother's very best recipe, it's a savory-sweet treat to accompany your corned beef and cabbage.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seeds
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

How To Make irish soda bread

  • Step 1
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir in raisins and caraway seeds. Mix in buttermilk to make a semi-sticky dough.
  • Step 2
Knead 3 to 5 minutes on a floured surface. Shape into a ball.
  • Step 3
Bake in an oiled and floured round cake pan for about 1 hour. Bread is done when you tap it with your knuckle and it makes a hollow sound.
