How To Make homemade french baguette
-
Step 1Combine the water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit about 10 minutes until active and bubbly.
-
Step 2In a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, add 4 cups of flour, the salt, and oil.
-
Step 3Pour the liquid into the flour mixture and mix on low speed. Add remaining flour 1/4 cup at a time until the dough pulls away from the bowl.
-
Step 4Continue to knead the dough in the bowl until the dough is smooth.
-
Step 5Oil a bowl and add the dough to the bowl. Cover with a dish towel or plastic wrap and let sit 1 hour.
-
Step 6Roll the dough out on a floured surface and divide it in half. Roll the dough into a rectangle and place it on a baguette pan or baking sheet.
-
Step 7Cover and let rise another hour.
-
Step 8Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Use a sharp knife and cut slits in the top of the dough.
-
Step 9Place the dough in the oven and throw in a few ice cubes and shut the oven. Bake 10 minutes.
-
Step 10Mix the egg with a little water and brush it on the loaves.
-
Step 11Place back in the oven for 10 more minutes or until nice and brown.
-
Step 12Remove from the oven and let cool. Slice.
