It's hard to believe when I hear someone say they can't make cornbread.It's so easy,it's one of the 1st recipes I made when I began cooking as a child.This bread is sweet,the way my family likes it but if you don't like sweet cornbread you can add less sugar or omit. Adding the oil fat to the bater makes the cornbread light,just be careful!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup oil,butter or margarine
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 cup milk

How To Make homemade cornbread

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 400 deg.Pour oil,butter or margarine in a cast iron skillet.Heat in oven while mixing remaining ingredients and oven heats.
  • Step 2
    Combine flour,cornmeal,baking powder,salt and sugar.Mix well.
  • Step 3
    Measure milk.Add eggs in same container and beat well,add to dry ingredients.Mix.
  • Step 4
    Carefully add hot oil to batter and mix well.Pour batter into same hot skillet.
  • Step 5
    Bake in hot oven 20-25 mins until golden brown.
