This recipe was given to my husband from a little old lady in a nurseing home he worked at. I made these when I owned my bakery and couldn't keep them on the shelf.

3 c
sifted flour
1 lb
new york sharp chedder cheese
1 tsp
baking powder
1 c
1 tsp
1/2 tsp
cayenne pepper

How to Make Cheese Straws


  • 1Allow cheese and margarine to reach room temp. or become soft.
    Grate the cheese.
  • 2Mix all the ingredients together.
    Fill a cookie press with the dough.
    Line cookie sheet with waxed paper.
    Using press, put the dough onto cookie sheet and cut into the desired length.
  • 3cook in 325 degree ocen for approximately 15 min or until slightly brown. Cool on brown paper.
  • 4You can use a rolling pin and roll these out on a flour service. Roll real thin and cut into strips. I hated useing the press it was a pain. Also if you want to add more cayenne for a tangier straw do so.
