My Grandmother always said when gnats are flying the bananas are ready. To this day, I only use bananas that have black spots as that's when the flavor is fullest.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 2/3 c
    sugar
  • 2
    eggs
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 c
    ripe bananas
  • 2 Tbsp
    cold water
  • 1/4 c
    chopped nuts (optional)

How to Make Banana Nut Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour, set aside
  2. Cream shortening and sugar
  3. Add eggs and vanilla, mix
  4. Mix in dry ingredients
  5. Add bananas, water, chopped nuts, mix (just enough to mix all ingredients together)
  6. Pour into loaf pan sprayed with Pam and Bake @ 350 degrees for 50 minutes (or test by sticking a butter knife in middle and pull out..if knife is clear..it's done)
  7. Using a butter knife, go along edges for easy removal. Place on a wire rack to cool...Enjoy!!
