banana nut bread

My Grandmother always said when gnats are flying the bananas are ready. To this day, I only use bananas that have black spots as that's when the flavor is fullest.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 - eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup ripe bananas
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)

How To Make banana nut bread

  • Step 1
    Combine baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour, set aside
  • Step 2
    Cream shortening and sugar
  • Step 3
    Add eggs and vanilla, mix
  • Step 4
    Mix in dry ingredients
  • Step 5
    Add bananas, water, chopped nuts, mix (just enough to mix all ingredients together)
  • Step 6
    Pour into loaf pan sprayed with Pam and Bake @ 350 degrees for 50 minutes (or test by sticking a butter knife in middle and pull out..if knife is clear..it's done)
  • Step 7
    Using a butter knife, go along edges for easy removal. Place on a wire rack to cool...Enjoy!!
