banana nut bread
My Grandmother always said when gnats are flying the bananas are ready. To this day, I only use bananas that have black spots as that's when the flavor is fullest.

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 - eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup ripe bananas
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts (optional)
How To Make banana nut bread

Step 1Combine baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour, set aside

Step 2Cream shortening and sugar

Step 3Add eggs and vanilla, mix

Step 4Mix in dry ingredients

Step 5Add bananas, water, chopped nuts, mix (just enough to mix all ingredients together)

Step 6Pour into loaf pan sprayed with Pam and Bake @ 350 degrees for 50 minutes (or test by sticking a butter knife in middle and pull out..if knife is clear..it's done)

Step 7Using a butter knife, go along edges for easy removal. Place on a wire rack to cool...Enjoy!!
