baked apple doughnuts

This has been a family recipe for years. I use a mini muffin pan and it is like having doughnut holes.I usually double this recipe and get about 3 dozen mini muffins

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/3 cup shortening (i use butter flavored crisco)
- 1 - egg beaten
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup grated raw apple
- TOPPING
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup melted butter
How To Make baked apple doughnuts

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Step 2Sift together First 4 ingredients and set aside

Step 3Combine shortening, egg,milk, and grated raw apple in bowl. Mix.

Step 4Add to sifted dry ingredients and mix until blended.

Step 5Spoon into greased muffin tins, filling about 2/3 full.

Step 6Bake at 350 degrees fro 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pan immediately.

Step 7Mix remaining sugar and cinnamon. Roll doughnuts in melted butter and or margarine, then in sugar and cinnamon mixture. Serve warm or wrap and pack for lunch when cool.
