rainbow & tie dyed pancakes

These are fun pancakes for a family or holiday brunch! Gavin (my 8 year old grandson) said, "I liked how pretty they were and how good they tasted." This recipe makes a big batch of pancakes. We make the silver dollar size ones first and the big tie dye ones last. We put the left over pancakes in zipper bags and either save for the next day or freeze them.

yield 7-8 dozen silver dollar size and 6-8 large size

Ingredients

  • BATTER
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered milk
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 large lemon (zest and juice)
  • 4 large eggs (well beaten)
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cups water (add slowly to desired consistancy)
  • DYE
  • - food coloring: purple, blue, green yellow orange and red (to desired brightness or darkness)
  • OIL
  • - thin coating of vegetable oil for frying pan or griddle

How To Make rainbow & tie dyed pancakes

  • Step 1
    In large bowl: Mix together dry ingredients.
  • Step 2
    In smaller bowl: Beat eggs well. Add other liquids and zest. (saving back some of the water to use as needed). Divide batter into bowls and add food coloring. Blue

    Make like you would any silver dollar pancake.

    All the colors of the rainbow!

    .Make the Tie Dye pancakes by swirling a little of each color of batter onto the griddle. Cook as you would any pancke.
  • Step 11
    .Plate the pancakes up.

    *** Serve with desired type of eggs and pan fried Spam (ham, bacon or sausages).
