Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered milk
  • 1/2 cup shortening or butter
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • - oil for frying

How To Make navajo fry bread

  • Step 1
    Mix dry ingredients, use a fork to add shortening.
  • Step 2
    Add enough water to make dough. Knead until dough is soft not sticky
  • Step 3
    Form into 2 inch balls and flatten into a 6 inch circle.
  • Step 4
    Fry each side in oil about 1 min. until brown. Flip over and fry other side. Drain on paper towels.
  • Step 5
    Serve with cinnamon sugar or use as a base for taco meat and fixings.
