  • 2 c
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    powdered milk
  • 1/2 c
    shortening or butter
  • 3/4 c
    warm water
  • ·
    oil for frying

How to Make Navajo Fry Bread


  1. Mix dry ingredients, use a fork to add shortening.
  2. Add enough water to make dough. Knead until dough is soft not sticky
  3. Form into 2 inch balls and flatten into a 6 inch circle.
  4. Fry each side in oil about 1 min. until brown. Flip over and fry other side. Drain on paper towels.
  5. Serve with cinnamon sugar or use as a base for taco meat and fixings.
