My mum works as a cook at a daycare centre, the kids there love this bread, and so do I. This recipe calls for raisins, but I like to add walnuts sometimes as well.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup raisins

How To Make mum's applesauce bread

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350F. Cream butter and sugar.
  • Step 2
    Add egg and mix well.
  • Step 3
    Stir in applesauce, mixing well.
  • Step 4
    Sift together flour, spices and baking soda. Stir in raisins (and walnuts if you add some) to flour mix.
  • Step 5
    Add dry to wet ingredients, mix until no flour is visible.
  • Step 6
    Pour into a greased loaf pan, bake for 45-60 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean).
