My mum works as a cook at a daycare centre, the kids there love this bread, and so do I.

This recipe calls for raisins, but I like to add walnuts sometimes as well.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    butter
  • 1 c
    white sugar
  • 1 large
    egg
  • 1 c
    unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 tsp
    cloves
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 c
    raisins

How to Make Mum's Applesauce Bread

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350F.

    Cream butter and sugar.
  2. Add egg and mix well.
  3. Stir in applesauce, mixing well.
  4. Sift together flour, spices and baking soda. Stir in raisins (and walnuts if you add some) to flour mix.
  5. Add dry to wet ingredients, mix until no flour is visible.
  6. Pour into a greased loaf pan, bake for 45-60 minutes (or until a toothpick comes out clean).
