Honestly...they are light, big, fluffy and won't fall apart. I created these because I ran out of butter and won't make them any other way! "PERFECT for biscuits and gravy"

prep time 10 Min
cook time 15 Min
method Bake
yield 8-9 biscuits

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1/3 cup crisco
  • 1 cup buttermilk

How To Make lil' mama's big biscuits

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 425 degrees
  • Step 2
In a large bowl (do not use a processor or mixer), whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually stir in your buttermilk.
  • Step 3
place onto a lightly floured surface, and knead 20 to 30 times. Roll out to one inch thickness and cut out your circles using a doughnut cutter. You can get creative and use cookie cutters.
  • Step 4
Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper 2 inches apart. Bake for 12 to 13 minutes or until golden brown. Watch your oven after 10 minutes to get the accurate time, I use a gas oven and this was the time it took for mine to bake.
