I used a heart shaped cookie cutter instead of a biscuit cutter, perfect for valentines day with strawberry jam

Ingredients

  • 4 cups self-rising flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons baking powder
  • 1/2 cup crisco shortening
  • 2 cups milk or buttermilk

How To Make homemade biscuits

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 450 degrees Sift flour, sugar, & baking powder together. Using a fork cut shortening into flour mixture.
  • Step 2
    Mix in milk or buttermilk with a fork until moisten.
  • Step 3
    Form large ball. Put out on floured surface and knead a few times. Roll out about 3/4-inch thick and cut with large (3-inch biscuit cutter.
  • Step 4
    Place on greased baking sheet with sides of biscuits touching. Bake at 450 degrees about 15 minutes. until brown
  • Step 5
    Keep close eye on biscuits around the ten minute mark so the bottom does not burn
