buttermilk biscuits

My grandma and momma taught me how to make these biscuits.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda*
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder*
  • 1 teaspoon salt*
  • 4 tablespoons shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

How To Make buttermilk biscuits

  • Step 1
    Combine the dry ingredients. Add the shortening, and cut into flour mixture until coarse and crumbly. Add buttermilk and stir lightly to mix.
  • Step 2
    Turn dough out onto floured board, and knead lightly. Pat the dough down with your hands to about 1/2 inch thickness.
  • Step 3
    Cut with a biscuit cutter or glass. Place on greased baking sheet.
  • Step 4
    Bake in pre-heated oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until lightly browned on top.
  • Step 5
    *make sure your measurements for the baking soda, baking powder, and salt are level, not heaping.
