yeast
1/2 c
lukewarm water
5 c
all-purpose flour
1 tsp
baking soda
1 tsp
kosher salt
1 Tbsp
baking powder
2 Tbsp
sugar
3/4 c
crisco shortening
2 c
buttermilk

How to Make Basic Southern Biscuits

Step-by-Step

  • 1Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • 2Dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  • 3Mix the dry ingredients together.
  • 4Cut in the shortening.
  • 5Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk. Mix well.
  • 6Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to the desired thickness. Cut with a small biscuit cutter and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  • 7Bake for about 12 minutes - or until they are gold en brown!
