  • 1 pkg
  • 1/2 c
    lukewarm water
  • 5 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1 tsp
    kosher salt
  • 1 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp
  • 3/4 c
    crisco shortening
  • 2 c

How to Make Basic Southern Biscuits


  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients together.
  4. Cut in the shortening.
  5. Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk. Mix well.
  6. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to the desired thickness. Cut with a small biscuit cutter and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for about 12 minutes - or until they are gold en brown!
