These are yummy biscuits, based on a Paula Deen recipe. Easy!

Ingredients

  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup lukewarm water
  • 5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 cup crisco shortening
  • 2 cups buttermilk

How To Make basic southern biscuits

  • Step 1
    Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Step 2
    Dissolve the yeast in warm water.
  • Step 3
    Mix the dry ingredients together.
  • Step 4
    Cut in the shortening.
  • Step 5
    Add the yeast mixture and buttermilk. Mix well.
  • Step 6
    Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to the desired thickness. Cut with a small biscuit cutter and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Step 7
    Bake for about 12 minutes - or until they are gold en brown!
