These are a cross between a biscuit and a scone. You can split one in half to use for a sandwich or just serve by itself with jam.

Ingredients

2 c
all purpose flour
2 1/2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
baking soda
1/2 c
currants or raisins
2 Tbsp
granulated sugar
1/2 c
buttermilk
1 Tbsp
sherry

How to Make Williamsburg Buns

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, currants or raisins and sugar in a bowl.
  • 2Combine buttermilk and sherry in a measuring cup. Pour into flour mixture. Gently mix with hands into a soft dough.
  • 3Press dough onto a lightly floured board. Shape into a 1/2 inch rectangle. Cut dough into rounds or squares. Place on a baking sheet that has been lightly greased.
  • 4Bake for 14 to 18 minutes at 375 degrees until golden brown. Cool slightly before serving.
