Ingredients

  • 1/4 c
    cold butter
  • 2 c
    whole wheat flour
  • 1 c
    all purpose flour
  • 2 Tbsp
    sugar
  • ·
    pinch of salt
  • 2 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 2
    eggs
  • 3/4 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/4 c
    raisins

How to Make Whole Wheat Scones

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat the oven to 400F. Grease and flour a large baking sheet. Cut the butter into small pieces. Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add butter and rub in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
  2. In another bowl, beat together the eggs and buttermilk. Set aside 2 tbsp.for glazing. Stir the remaining egg mixture into dry ingredients until it just holds together. Stir in the raisins.
  3. Roll out the dough about 3/4 inch thick. Stamp out circles with floured biscuit cutter. Place on prepared baking sheet and brush with the glaze.
  4. Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden Allow to cool slightly before serving. Split in half with a fork while still warm and spread with butter and jam, if desired.
