These delicious & healthy scones have buttermilk in them to make them soft.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup cold butter
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • - pinch of salt
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 - eggs
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup raisins

How To Make whole wheat scones

  • Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 400F. Grease and flour a large baking sheet. Cut the butter into small pieces. Combine the dry ingredients in a bowl. Add butter and rub in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    In another bowl, beat together the eggs and buttermilk. Set aside 2 tbsp.for glazing. Stir the remaining egg mixture into dry ingredients until it just holds together. Stir in the raisins.
  • Step 3
    Roll out the dough about 3/4 inch thick. Stamp out circles with floured biscuit cutter. Place on prepared baking sheet and brush with the glaze.
  • Step 4
    Bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden Allow to cool slightly before serving. Split in half with a fork while still warm and spread with butter and jam, if desired.
