- 1 package yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
- 1/2 teaspoon soda
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 cup butter milk

Step 1Dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside. mix dry ingredents in order given, cutting in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 2Stir in milk and yeast mixture. blend throughly, knead dough lightly on floured surface. roll out and cut with a large floured biscuit cutter. let rise slightly about 1/2 hour. and bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until slightly browned.
